Michael Neser is an Australian professional cricketer. He plays domestic cricket for Queensland and the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League and also represents Glamorgan in the County Championship, Royal London One-Day Cup, and T20 Blast.
In May 2018, Neser was added to Australia’s One Day International squad for the series against England as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood. He made his ODI debut against England on 13 June 2018. In September 2018, he was named in Australia’s Test squad for the series against Pakistan but did not play a match.
In July 2019, Neser was selected in Australia’s squad for the 2019 Ashes series in England. In November 2020, he was included in Australia’s Test squad for the series against India. He was again named in Test squads for the South Africa series in January 2021 and the 2021–22 Ashes series in November 2021. Neser was a member of the Australian team that won the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final.

Michael Neser’s Personal Life
Michael Neser was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and spent his first ten years there before his family moved to Australia. He comes from a family of doctors. His father is a spinal surgeon, his mother is a dentist, and his great-grandfather was also a doctor. Neser has mentioned that his grandfather once treated the daughter of the South African president, which he jokingly calls his family’s “claim to fame.”
Outside cricket, Neser grew up in what he described as a big fishing family. He enjoys fishing and surfing and once recalled a childhood trip to Kenya where his family caught a kingfish that he said would have been a world record in size, although it could not be officially recorded. He also plays the trombone, which he took up after missing out on learning the drums.

Michael Neser has signed with Hampshire for another County Championship stint. He will join the club for the first six rounds of the 2026 County Championship season during April and May. Neser previously played for Hampshire in 2024, where he featured in seven T20 Blast matches and one Championship game.
