Michael Vaughan’s statement on England team’s alcohol controversy during Ashes tour

New Delhi: The fourth match of the ongoing 5-Test Ashes series between Australia and England will start on 26 December. Before this match, there was a stir in the England cricket team, when the issue related to liquor controversy gained momentum. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his opinion on this. Vaughan described the matter as normal, but fans have expressed their displeasure on his statement on social media.

England team’s alcohol controversy

It is worth noting that the England team has already lost the Ashes series. The team has faced defeat in three consecutive matches, giving Australia an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Amidst this performance, the news related to the alcohol party of the players has further increased the anger of the fans.

Michael Vaughan’s response

Michael Vaughan mentioned in one of his columns that he would not criticize the job done by the England players in Noosa. According to him, the real basis for criticism of the players should be their performance in the match, style of play and preparation. Vaughn said youth drinking a little during the holidays is not a big issue.

Vaughan also admitted that he used to do the same when he played for England. However, he made it clear that players should understand when to stop and when to back off. According to him, perhaps Ben Duckett needs a better understanding in this matter.

‘Players should not be punished’

The former captain further said that based on the facts available, Ben Duckett or any other player should not be punished. He said such activities are considered common in countries like England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Criticism of statement on social media

Vaughan said that when young players get a break of 3-4 days, they spend this kind of time. However, fans believe that the players should have shown more responsibility after the defeat, hence Michael Vaughan’s statement has faced criticism on social media.
