Microsoft’s biggest AI bet in India, huge data center to open by 2026, competition in AI market will increase
Microsoft Data Center 2026: The power of AI is continuously increasing in India, hence now Microsoft is also ready to play a big bet. The company has clearly stated that it sees India not only as a big market but also as a global hub of AI and cloud technology and as part of its strategy, Microsoft will start its largest data center in India by mid-2026.
Huge demand for Azure and Copilot AI in India
Economic Times has reported in another report that Microsoft India and South Asia President Puneet Chandhok said that the demand for Azure Cloud Services and Copilot 365 AI Assistant priced at $ 30 per month is increasing rapidly in the country. Most companies in India are rapidly adopting AI tools so that work can become easier, faster and smarter. It is being told that in view of more than 1 billion internet users and large number of tech talent present in India, Microsoft is considering it as a very important market for AI services. This is the reason why the company is continuously busy strengthening its hold in the country.
Stir due to investment of Rs 1.45 lakh crore
As you must be aware that last year itself, Microsoft had announced an investment of about 17.5 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 1,45,000 crore in Indian rupees in India at the end of the year. Which is considered to be the company’s biggest investment in Asia so far. Along with this, an additional investment of about 3 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 24,900 crore in Indian rupees was also announced in the beginning of 2025.
According to this plan, a new data center is now being prepared in Hyderabad. It is also being seen that the company is already quite strong in this city but now with the arrival of AI Data Center, this presence will increase even more.

Hyderabad will become Microsoft’s AI powerhouse
Regarding this, President Puneet Chandok says that the company is rapidly progressing the data center project. In which he says that the data center to be built in Hyderabad will become one of the biggest facilities of Microsoft. But till now no official information has been released regarding the total capacity of this centre.
Looking at the future, it is being said that the rapidly growing customer base in the country will benefit from the new AI capability. Among the companies using Microsoft Copilot within India are big IT companies like Infosys, Cognizant and Tata Consultancy Services, which have about 50,000 licenses.
India becomes the biggest weapon in AI race
As a new picture of the future, this step of Microsoft is being considered a very important bet amidst the increasing competition in the AI sector. Like Microsoft, companies like Alphabet and Amazon are also engaged in rapidly expanding AI and cloud business in India. In such a situation, it would not be wrong to believe that India will become a global AI industry in the coming years.
