Microsoft’s big U-turn, Copilot, which was supposed to be useful, now just a means of entertainment? There was panic among users – ..
News India Live, Digital Desk: World’s leading tech company Microsoft has taken a step regarding its popular AI tool ‘Co-Pilot’, which has shocked the entire tech industry. What was till now being promoted as a powerful ‘Productivity Tool’ and ‘AI Companion’, has now been officially launched by the company as just ‘Entertainment’ (Entertainment Purposes Only) Has been declared a means of. This secret change in Microsoft’s ‘Terms and Conditions’ (Terms of Use) has created concern among users who were completely dependent on AI for office work.
‘Co-worker’ in marketing, but ‘just entertainment’ in terms
Surprisingly, Microsoft has spent billions of dollars in the last one year to fit Co-Pilot into tools like Windows 11, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In the advertisements, it was presented as a ‘smart companion’ that can do your tough office tasks in minutes. But now the company’s new guidelines say that the co-pilot can make mistakes and it may not work as you want. The company has clearly warned not to use it for “important advice” and to use it at “your own risk”.
Why did this big U-turn have to be taken?
Experts believe that Microsoft has taken this step to avoid legal complications. In fact, AI models are often victims of ‘hallucinations’, that is, they sometimes present wrong information as absolutely true. If a user takes a major business decision based on wrong information given by the co-pilot and suffers a loss, he can make a claim against the company. By labeling it as ‘entertainment only’, Microsoft has protected itself from any such legal claims.
Will it no longer be used for office work?
This does not mean at all that you should stop using the co-pilot. Microsoft will still continue to sell it as a productivity tool. However, this change is mainly for the consumer (Individual) version. The company wants that users should not blindly accept the information given by AI as true and should ‘cross-check’ it themselves before doing any important work. That is, now AI will only help you, but the final decision and responsibility will be yours.
Why is there resentment among users?
Users on the internet are trolling Microsoft over the fact that the company itself is calling the service for which they are paying huge amount in the name of ‘Pro’ subscription as “just entertainment”. People on social media are raising questions that if it is just for entertainment, then why is it included among professional workspace and files like Excel? This ‘U-turn’ has once again sparked debate on the credibility of AI.
