It is believed that oil and chemicals released from oil depots and refineries destroyed in the attacks spread into the atmosphere, which, when combined with clouds, can cause toxic rain.

The Iranian Red Crescent issued an emergency alert saying that this rain may contain dangerous elements like sulfur, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons. Such rain can damage the skin and cause serious damage to the lungs if inhaled. Officials have advised people to stay in homes and take precautions.
