New Delhi. In the second phase of the budget session of the Parliament, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar (S. Jaishankar) Amidst the deepening crisis in West Asia and increasing violence there, the Government of India has expressed its concern and preparedness. External Affairs Minister in Rajya Sabha S. Jaishankar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly reviewing this entire incident. He stressed that the security of about one crore Indian citizens living in Gulf countries is the biggest priority of the government.

The Foreign Minister told the House that to reduce tension, Prime Minister Modi has spoken to the heads of state of UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Israel and Bahrain. India clearly believes that military conflict cannot be resolved, hence dialogue and diplomacy is the only way out. He called on all parties to exercise restraint and give priority to the safety of civilians.

A matter of serious concern for India
S. Jaishankar underlined that this conflict poses multidimensional challenges for India. About 1 crore Indians live in Gulf countries. At the same time, thousands of Indians are present in Iran for education and employment. He said that West Asia is the center of energy security for India. India’s annual trade with the Gulf region is approximately $200 billion. S Jaishankar said the conflict has also affected maritime shipping, where many Indian crew members are employed. Unfortunately, two Indian sailors have lost their lives and one is missing in these incidents. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke on the West Asia dispute in the Rajya Sabha.

Advisory issued for Indians
Considering the seriousness of the situation, the government has taken steps from time to time. The Foreign Minister said that the government was alert since signs of tension were detected in June 2025. It was advised not to travel to Iran in January 2026. On 14 February and 23 February, the Indian Embassy advised citizens to leave Iran by available means. The evacuation process had already been initiated to ensure safe return of Indian citizens including students.
