Milner equals Barry’s record: List of players with most appearances in Premier League

Brighton and Hove Albion’s James Milner equalled the record for most Premier League appearances during his side’s match against Aston Villa on Wednesday at Villa Park.

Milner registered his 653rd appearance in the league, now sharing the top spot in the all-time list with Gareth Barry. The midfielder achieved the feat when he came on as a substitute in the 22nd minute.

The 40 year-old began his Premier League career with Leeds United in 2002 and went on to play for clubs like Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool, before moving to Brighton.

The three-time Premier League champion is the only active player to have more than 500 appearances in the league and could possibly rewrite the records books in Brighton’s next game away to Brentford on February 21.
