Mirzapur Secret: If Ali Fazal had not been adamant, this most dangerous scene of Guddu Bhaiya would have been cut.
News India Live, Digital Desk: ‘Mirzapur’ is not just a web series but an emotion for all of us. Be it Guddu Pandit’s anger or Munna Bhaiya’s attitude, the intoxication of it has not subsided till date. But do you know that there is a scene in this series, without which ‘Mirzapur’ would have seemed incomplete, it was actually about to be cancelled? Yes, this story has been narrated by Ali Fazal himself. If Ali had not been adamant on his “stubbornness” on the shooting set that day, perhaps we would not have got to see that dreaded avatar of Guddu Bhaiya. Come, let us tell you the complete inside story of that day of shooting. Late evening and the tension of the director. This story is from that scene of ‘Mirzapur’ Season 1, where Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) goes to kill Rati Shankar Shukla. Remember that scene? Where Guddu Bhaiya first recites the Hindi alphabet (K, Kh, Ga…) and then shoots? That scene in itself was awe-inspiring. It so happened that on the day this scene was to be shot, it was evening. The sun was setting fast and the natural light was ending. Lighting is very important in filmmaking. The director and the technical team felt that now it will be dark, and this scene is very heavy, it will not be possible to shoot it. The makers had almost made up their mind that “Let’s pack-up today, this scene will not be possible now.” He was being put in the cancel list. Guddu Bhaiya said – “Just give it one chance!” Generally, actors become happy after hearing the pack-up, but Ali Fazal was completely engrossed in the character of ‘Guddu Pandit’ at that time. He had it memorized and he did not want to let that anger and passion cool down. Ali stopped the makers and said, “Man, please don’t cancel it. The lights are going out, right? No problem, I will do it in one take.” The director was taking a risk because if the right shot was not found in one take, the whole day would have been wasted. But everyone had to bow down to Ali’s confidence. He asked to roll the camera. And then history was created…Ali Fazal came in front of the camera. As the lights were going off, he completed the entire ‘K, Kha, Ga’ dialogue and the scene of killing Rati Shankar Shukla in one breath, without any mistake. That shot was so perfect that everyone present on the set was stunned. Ali says that it was all a game of luck. He remembered all that and he just wanted to bring out that emotion. If that scene had been postponed to the next day, perhaps it would not have had the ‘natural madness’ that we see on screen today. Now what next? Friends, it is the result of this intensity that ‘Mirzapur’ has become a cult classic today. Now there is also talk of ‘Mirzapur: The Film’. Let’s see what new creation Ali Fazal creates in it. What is your opinion? Which dialogue or scene of Guddu Bhaiya do you like the most? Is that ‘K Kha Ga’ scene your favorite too? Please let us know by writing in the comment box!
