Miss Universe Vietnam Hoang Thuy chases 15-year dream with Victoria’s Secret casting bid

Thuy announced on April 4 that she had applied for the brand’s casting. In an interview with Ngoi Saoshe said she entered this year’s selection process with full determination.

“At 34, I no longer have as many fears as I once did. This is a journey where I want to be true to myself: to dare to think, dare to act, and pursue what I believe in,” she said. “I’m sharing this not only for myself, but also in hopes of inspiring others.”

She added that regardless of the outcome, she would be satisfied for having set a goal and pushed herself to grow. Walking for Victoria’s Secret has been her dream since her early days in the industry, even though the brand has only recently launched an open casting process for a wider pool of applicants.

Over the years, Thuy said she has prepared extensively by refining her runway skills, stage presence, and on-camera performance, while also building her personal brand and maintaining both physical fitness and mental resilience.

“From the beginning of my career, I’ve always believed that opportunities can come at any time, and when they do, I have to be ready,” she said. “That preparation isn’t just about the past few weeks or months, it’s been a long, daily process of self-improvement.”

To reach peak condition, Thuy said she has intensified her training regimen, working out five times a week for about two hours per session. She follows a strict, science-based diet with guidance from fitness and health experts, limiting starch intake and staying well-hydrated. Rather than focusing on weight loss, she aims to build lean muscle and achieve a more defined physique, particularly around the waist.

She also studies the training routines and careers of top models who have walked for the lingerie brand such as Gisele Bündchen and Candice Swanepoel, whom she considers role models.

Reflecting on her strengths and challenges, Thuy said she is confident in her appearance, experience, and inner resilience, qualities she has developed through years of facing setbacks and pressure. Her biggest challenge, she noted, is bringing herself to peak condition within a limited timeframe, not only physically, but also in terms of energy, confidence, and stage presence.

Asked about her goals, Thuy said she hopes to advance as far as possible in the casting process.

“For me, success isn’t just about being selected. It’s about stepping out of my comfort zone and fighting for my biggest dream,” she said. “If the result isn’t what I hope for, I won’t see it as a failure, but as a milestone to reflect, learn, and improve. I understand that each year, the selection criteria may be different.”

She added that if she passes the online round, she will move on to an in-person casting.

“I’ll continue to share updates on this journey,” she said. “For me, this is a chance to get closer to my dream, no matter the outcome.”

Born Hoang Thi Thuy, the model and beauty queen studied industrial design at Hanoi Architectural University before gaining recognition on Vietnam’s Next Top Model in 2011, which launched her modeling career.

She was crowned first runner-up at Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 and was later named Miss Universe Vietnam 2019. She went on to represent Vietnam at Miss Universe 2019, where she placed in the Top 20.
