Mist and dense fog in Delhi from 18 to 20 December, IMD warns
New Delhi. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of haze and dense fog in Delhi-NCR from December 18-20. During this period, drivers have been advised to take precautions. IMD said that on Thursday, winds blowing from the western direction at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour kept the sky clear. In the coming days, the minimum and maximum temperatures of Delhi are expected to be up to 2 degrees Celsius above normal. At present, there will be no severe ‘cold wave’ like situation in Delhi.
There has been a warning of ‘dense fog’ in the states surrounding Delhi – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana during December 18-20. It is expected to have an impact on trains and flights coming to Delhi. Cold winds are also expected to blow from western and north-western direction for the next two days. During this time, Meteorological Department officials have advised those going out of their homes and drivers to take precautions. Weather officials have warned of ‘cold wave’ in many states due to the movement in the mountains and icy winds blowing in the plains. Due to this, life has started getting affected.
Visibility will remain very low due to dense fog in isolated areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand during December 18-21. Dense fog conditions are also expected to persist in Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha till December 20. At the same time, its effect is expected to continue till December 22 in North-East India. Due to falling mercury in the plains, the minimum temperature in Nagaur in Rajasthan was 3.7 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours, making this state the coldest plain area in the country.
Severe cold wave is expected in parts of Western Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 18-19 December. The Meteorological Department has warned of extremely cold conditions due to dense fog in different areas of Uttar Pradesh on 18-19 December. The minimum temperature remained below 5 degrees Celsius in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. However, after December 20, there is a possibility of a slight increase of 2 degrees Celsius in the temperature of North-West India. There are chances of snowfall and rain in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on December 20-21. There has been a warning of light drizzle in some parts of Punjab on 20-21 December.
Weather officials have advised fishermen not to venture into the sea till December 20 due to rough weather in the Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area. Strong winds at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour are expected in Andaman and Nicobar. Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to remain in the grip of cold wave for the next 48 hours. At the same time, heavy rains have been recorded in Cuddalore and Ramanathapuram of Tamil Nadu in the last 24 hours.———–
