Mizoram becomes first state to launch Digital Census 2027 and self-enumeration campaign

Aizawl, April 1. Mizoram has become the first state in the North-Eastern region to begin preparatory work for Census of India 2027. The process officially began on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma has successfully completed his self-enumeration under the first phase (House Listing and Housing Census) of Census of India, 2027 at his official residence, a senior official of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

The CMO official said the self-enumeration was conducted through a newly launched online portal and was assisted by personnel from Aizawl Municipal Corporation, General Administration Department and Directorate of Census Operations. This initiative is an important step towards promoting digital participation and increasing awareness among citizens. After the Chief Minister, other dignitaries also participated in the self-counting process.

Home Minister K. Sapdanga completed his self-counting while PWD minister Vanlalhalana completed the process at their respective residences. Senior officials of the state government and census department were present to assist in the process.

Census of India 2027 will be conducted in two phases

Census of India 2027 will be conducted in two phases. The first phase of house listing and housing census began on April 1 in select states and union territories while the second phase, population census, is scheduled for February 2027.

The Chief Minister’s Office official said that in a major development, this census will be conducted digitally for the first time. Citizens have also been given the option of self-enumeration, this facility has been introduced for the first time.

In Mizoram, along with some other states and union territories, the self-counting period will run from April 1 to April 15. After this, house listing and housing census will be conducted across the state from April 16 to May 15. According to officials, people can complete the self-enumeration by visiting the official portal, logging in using their mobile number, providing their location and filling in their household details.

On submission of details, a unique Self Enumeration ID (SE ID) will be generated. To ensure correct inclusion in the census, this ID should be shared with the enumerator when they visit.

The government has encouraged all residents to avail of this convenient option, allowing individuals to provide accurate information at their convenience and also contribute to the smooth and efficient conduct of the census.
