Controversial video of Karnataka MLA, creates uproar on social media
New Delhi. A video of Congress MLA Matin Patel has been released in which he is allegedly seen dancing with weapons during a family function in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district. This video has become increasingly viral on social media, due to which serious discussions have started on the working style of the MLA and the increasing gun culture in the society.
In this viral video, Mateen Patel comes out of a black SUV and is seen dancing with an object that looks like a pistol on a song from the film ‘Dhurandhar’. In the video, some of his supporters are also seen holding objects like guns. As soon as the clip spread, people strongly criticized it, calling it irresponsible. Many users said that this type of display is inappropriate for public representatives, and sends a wrong message to the society.
MLA’s clarification and police investigation
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, MLA Matin Patel clarified that the object seen in the video was not a real weapon, but a toy gun. He explained that it was a private family event, and he did it at the request of the children. Patel says that the video is being presented in wrong context, and the police has already questioned him in this matter.
However, after the controversy escalated, the police have started a formal investigation. Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Sharanappa SD says that officials have been instructed to investigate the authenticity of the weapon shown in the video. It will also be seen at which place the video was shot and under which police station that area falls.
legal perspective
The Police Commissioner clarified that if the weapon is found to be genuine during the investigation, it will be seen whether it had a valid license or not, and whether any rules were violated. If illegal weapons or any rules are ignored, action will be taken under relevant sections. He said display of weapons in public places is an offense under the law, and a detailed investigation would be conducted before reaching a conclusion.
This incident has once again raised the question as to what should be the responsibility of people associated with public life. In the age of social media, any video can reach millions of people in no time, and thus the conduct of public representatives is more closely monitored. Now all eyes are on the police investigation report, which will decide whether it was just a misunderstanding or a violation of rules.
