MI New York could not even save Puran’s record century, Smith-Goss created history by chasing 267 runs
MLC: The biggest run chase in the history of cricket was seen in the eliminator match of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026. Despite MI New York scoring 266 runs, Washington Freedom achieved the target of 267 runs in just 19 overs and created a new world record for the biggest successful run chase in men’s T20 cricket. Washington Freedom, which set out to chase the target, had a very poor start. The team lost two wickets in just 13 balls and the score reached 13 runs. But after this captain Steve Smith and Andreas Goss changed the entire course of the match.

Both the batsmen batted aggressively and put continuous pressure on the MI New York bowlers. Goss played an explosive inning of 132 runs in just 51 balls which included 10 fours and 12 sixes. Captain Steve Smith returned unbeaten after scoring 110 runs and led the team to a historic victory. With this victory, Washington Freedom also broke the record of Punjab Kings. Earlier in IPL 2026, Punjab had created the record of the biggest successful run chase in T20 cricket by achieving the target of 265 runs. Now this record has been registered in the name of Washington Freedom.
Interestingly, before this, Nicholas Pooran from MI New York had scored the fastest century in the league by scoring a century in 31 balls and the team had scored a huge score of 266 runs. However, even Pooran’s record-breaking innings could not lead to victory in front of the historic partnership of Smith and Goss.
