New Delhi. The Modi government at the Center has blocked 18 over-the-top (OTT) platforms in 2024. Obscene, indecent or pornographic content was found on them. This step was taken under the IT Rules 2021, which is in force to control digital media content.

Union Minister L Murugan told the Lok Sabha that this action has been taken under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which gives the government the right to block online content. Gives.

The objective of the Government is to ensure content on the Internet that is in the interest of the country and respects cultural values. Murugan said that online news channels, such as Bolta Hindustan and National Dastak, come under government regulations and action can be taken against spreading misinformation.

Even online news channels are not exempted from the rules
