Modi government's plan… After Rameshwaram, Indian Railways will reach the last mile Dhanushkodi again.
Modi government's plan is that after Rameshwaram, Indian Railways will again reach the last end Dhanushkodi. Till 1964, trains used to go to Ram Sethu, but when the tsunami hit in 1964, this place became a crematorium. Since then Dhanushkodi is recorded in the government records as a haunted town. If we get the support of the state government, the work can also be started.
Actually, Dhanushkodi is 20 kilometers away from Rameshwaram. Once upon a time, the train used to go till Dhanushkodi where Ram Setu is. Tsunami had destroyed everything on the night of 22 December 1964. At that time the laughing city turned into ruins. Even today its scars are alive. 1800 people lost their lives in this tsunami.
More than 1800 people lost their lives in Dhanushkodi.
News Nation reached the exact place in Dhanushkodi where the Chuk-Chuk train was once the lifeline of the people. More than 1800 people lost their lives in Dhanushkodi in the devastating cyclone of 1964. This cyclone came on the night of 22 and 23 December 1964 and its speed reached 280 km/hour.
The train was washed away in the sea waves
In this disaster, the Dhanushkodi-Pamban train (known as Pamban Dhanushkodi Passenger) was washed away in the sea waves, killing more than 115 passengers and railway employees. The entire Dhanushkodi village was destroyed by this cyclone and the Indian government later declared it as 'absent land' i.e. not fit for habitation. This tragedy is still alive in the ruins of Dhanushkodi and in the memories of the local people. There is also a place called Arichalmunai, 6 kilometers ahead of Dhanushkodi, where there is a road. Tourists can visit there but for that they have to take special permission. If the train starts running then reaching there will also become easier.
