Modi Government Renames MGNREGA To Poojya Bapu Grameen Rozgar Yojna With Enhanced Benefits:
In a landmark policy decision aimed at strengthening rural livelihood security the Modi government has officially renamed the flagship rural employment scheme MGNREGA to Poojya Bapu Grameen Rozgar Yojna starting from December 2025.The Union Cabinet approved this significant identity makeover to align the twenty year old programme more closely with Mahatma Gandhis vision of self reliant villages while also introducing substantial upgrades to the benefits structure. Under the restructured guidelines rural households will now be entitled to a guaranteed one hundred and twenty five days of employment annually marking a significant increase from the previous limit of one hundred days The government has also revised the financial parameters of the scheme by raising the minimum daily wage to two hundred and forty rupees which addresses long standing demands for better compensation for unskilled manual labour. To support these expanded provisions the Centre has sanctioned a massive budgetary allocation of over one point five lakh crore rupees ensuring that funding remains robust for infrastructure projects like water conservation and rural road construction. Officials stated that while the name and legal framework have been refreshed to reflect contemporary development priorities the core mandate of providing a legal right to work remains unchanged and is now further strengthened by digital integration for better transparency in wage payments and attendance.
