Modi Govt 12 Years: 12 years of Modi government completed, those 12 big decisions which made India’s name shine in the whole world

Today the Modi government has completed 12 years at the helm of the country. In this long journey of the last 12 years, India has seen such an extraordinary transformation, where the mantra of ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’ has been the main basis of every policy and decision of the government. These 12 years are being seen not just as a ‘political tenure’ but as a ‘golden era of nation building’. Let’s take a look at those 12 historic and bold decisions of the government, which have transformed India from an emerging power to a strong ‘global leader’ on the global stage. These steps are not just administrative decisions, but are symbols of the high confidence of today’s new India.

1. Abolition of Article 370 and 35A

By resolving this issue, which was pending for decades and considered extremely sensitive, the government made the dream of ‘one country, one legislation’ come true. In August 2019, Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh was reorganized into two separate union territories. After this historic change, now all the provisions of the Indian Constitution and central laws are fully applicable there too. This has not only led to unprecedented improvement in the security situation, but also given a huge boost to education, health and infrastructure development as well as private investment and tourism.

2. Construction of a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya

The issue of Ram temple in Ayodhya was entangled in a maze of controversies and legal processes for centuries. Ultimately, this decades-old dispute was resolved peacefully in a constitutional manner following a historic and unanimous decision of the Supreme Court. With the grand consecration of Ram Lala, a new renaissance of India’s cultural consciousness took place. This entire decision has emerged before the world as an unmatched global example of the excellent balance between faith and constitutional process, which has made Ayodhya a global cultural hub.

3. ‘Self-reliant India’ and the new revolution of manufacturing

India’s dependence on imports from foreign countries has been rapidly reduced through the ‘Make in India’ campaign. Today India is becoming a major global export hub ranging from defense equipment to electronics goods. The government launched attractive Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for key sectors like electronics, pharmaceuticals, automobile and textiles. Giving priority to ‘Ease of Doing Business’, single window clearance and labor laws were made very easy, making it very accessible for foreign companies to set up factories in India. Also, the MSME sector, considered the economic backbone of the country, was linked to the global market by providing easy loans and technology.

4. The charisma of ‘Vaccine Vijay’ during the Corona period

When the whole world was yearning for a vaccine during the global pandemic, India expressed confidence in its scientists by working on ‘mission mode’. India ensured successful manufacturing and testing of two indigenous vaccines – Covaxin and Covishield – in record time. This was a living proof of the technological superiority of India’s pharmaceutical sector. India not only provided free vaccination to its population of more than 140 crores, but also created a new identity of ‘troubleshooter’ at the global level by sending free vaccines to all the poor and developing countries of the world under the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative.

5. Digital India: A unique revolution of transactions

Unified Payments Interface i.e. UPI has changed the picture of the entire economy of India. Today India has become the largest digital payment economy globally. UPI has completely eliminated complexities like bank details or IFSC code. Now even in the smallest village of the country, from a street vendor to a big mall, people are making secure money transactions in the blink of an eye by just scanning a QR code. Seeing this wonderful digital model of India, today many developed countries of the world are also standing in queue to adopt it in their countries.

6. ‘One Nation, One Tax’ in the form of GST

Reforming the country’s tax system, the Modi government implemented the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Before GST, dozens of different indirect taxes (like excise duty, service tax, VAT, entertainment tax) of the Center and states were applicable in the country, which made doing business extremely complex. GST abolished all these taxes and laid the foundation of a transparent single tax system, which has further formalized and strengthened the country’s economy by removing trade barriers.

7. Unprecedented transformation of infrastructure

To fulfill the dream of ‘Developed India 2047’, the government has greatly strengthened the physical foundation of the country’s infrastructure. There has been a historic increase in the pace of construction of national highways and a network of modern expressways like the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been laid. Semi-high-speed trains like ‘Vande Bharat’, made completely with indigenous technology, have today become the new and modern identity of Indian Railways. Also, railway stations are being redeveloped on the lines of airports. Through the ‘Udaan’ scheme, small cities of the country have been connected with air connectivity, due to which even a common citizen’s dream of air travel has come true.

8. End of middlemen through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)

The Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme has proved to be a big gamechanger in curbing corruption and leakages in government schemes. Its basic mantra is – ‘The right benefit, to the right person, without any delay’. Under this, money from various government subsidies and welfare schemes is transferred directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of the beneficiaries. This step has eliminated middlemen and fake paper beneficiaries from the government system forever.

9. ‘Mission Shakti’ and self-reliance in the field of defense

On March 27, 2019, India proved its military and technological capability to the whole world by successfully testing an anti-satellite (ASAT) missile under ‘Mission Shakti’ in the field of space science. India targeted and destroyed a live satellite in space and became the fourth most powerful country in the world to do so.

Along with this, to reduce foreign dependence in the defense sector, the government issued a ‘Negative Import List’, under which the import of hundreds of military equipment was completely banned and their manufacturing in the country was made mandatory. Special ‘Defence Industrial Corridors’ have been developed in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, where today everything from missiles to modern guns are being manufactured by Indian companies and MSMEs.

10. Swachh Bharat Mission: A big mass movement

As the world’s largest cleanliness campaign, ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ has brought about a huge and positive change in the lifestyle and habits of the citizens of the country. This mission was not limited to just building toilets or developing infrastructure, but it gave rise to a new thinking in the society towards public health, cleanliness and respect for women. This effort of India has been highly appreciated at the global level including the United Nations.

11. ‘Yoga’ got great recognition at global level

Giving recognition to India’s age-old ancient culture and heritage ‘Yoga’ at the global level is considered a huge diplomatic victory for the Modi government. It was only after India’s strong efforts that the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared June 21 as ‘International Yoga Day’. This proposal received the historic support of 177 countries of the world within record time in the United Nations, which in itself is an unprecedented achievement in world history.

12. Strong voice of ‘Global South’ and success of G20

During its G20 presidency, India strongly raised the voice of the developing and backward countries of the world i.e. ‘Global South’. Amidst global geopolitics and economic crises, India presented itself to the world as a fair, resolved and very strong leader. This successful presidency of G20 has become a milestone in India’s diplomatic history, which has proved that India no longer waits for any global agenda, but sets the agenda for the world itself. This is the reason why today India has a distinct and very influential identity on global platforms.
