Modi Holds Emergency Meeting With Chief Ministers Over Iran War Impact on Fuel and Inflation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a virtual meeting with chief ministers across India to assess how the ongoing Middle East conflict could affect fuel supply, inflation levels and logistics networks nationwide. The discussion focused on preparedness measures as global energy disruptions continue to influence domestic economic conditions.

Officials reviewed contingency plans designed to maintain stable fuel availability in case disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz intensify further. State governments were also asked to monitor supply chains closely and coordinate with federal authorities to manage any emerging shortages.

The meeting took place as concerns grow about the broader economic consequences of rising crude oil prices. India remains one of the world’s largest oil importers, making it particularly vulnerable to prolonged instability in global energy markets.

Chief ministers from most states participated in the session. However, representatives from West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry were not present due to upcoming elections in those regions.

The central government has indicated that it will continue monitoring the situation closely and is preparing additional policy responses if international tensions lead to deeper disruptions in trade or transportation.
