Modi meets his counterparts from Japan, Australia, discusses strengthening bilateral ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held “very fruitful” meetings with his counterparts from Japan and Australia on the sidelines of the 'Quad' (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) summit in Wilmington.

Modi met Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Wilmington on Saturday.


The three leaders met on the sidelines of the Quad summit hosted by US President Joe Biden.

Prime Ministers Modi and Albanese expressed their commitment to “further deepen” bilateral ties, while Modi said he enjoys the “time-tested friendship” with Australia.

“Had a wide-ranging discussion with PM Albanese. We want to build even more momentum in areas such as trade, security, space and culture. India greatly values ​​our time-tested friendship,” PM Modi said in a post on social media platform 'X'.

Meanwhile, Albanese said in a post on 'X', “It was great to talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about ways to strengthen our partnership during the Quad Summit today.”

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese in Wilmington, Delaware. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for mutual interests and for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a post on 'X'.

Modi also held a “very fruitful” meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. During this, the two leaders reviewed relations between India and Japan.

“Had a very good meeting with PM Kishida. Discussed cooperation in infrastructure, semiconductors, defence, green energy and other areas. Strong India-Japan ties are good for global prosperity,” the Prime Minister said in another post on 'X'.

It said, “They reviewed various aspects of India-Japan relations and exchanged views on further strengthening cooperation between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi thanked Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for his leadership in advancing the special strategic and global partnership over the past several years and wished him success and happiness.”

A release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that the two leaders noted that this is the 10th year of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan and expressed happiness over the further strengthening of relations between the two countries. The Prime Ministers also reviewed the multifaceted relations between the two nations. They discussed ways to further strengthen defence and security ties and cooperation in other areas.

The annual Quad summit was held in Wilmington, the hometown of US President Joe Biden, in which several new initiatives were launched to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and ways to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing war in Ukraine and Gaza were discussed.
