Modi praises Trump for ‘taking away’ license to buy Russian oil, ‘My good friend, doing a great job’

Russia has ‘taken away’ the license to buy oil. Then Prime Minister Narendra Modi was praised by Donald Trump. The Prime Minister spoke to the US President on the phone for about 40 minutes last Tuesday. After that, Trump sang the praises of Modi. It should be noted that India’s problems will increase due to the withdrawal of the ‘concession’ on the purchase of Russian oil in the context of the global energy crisis. But Trump did not care about them, he just praised his friend.

On Thursday, reporters asked Trump about the phone conversation with Modi. In response, the US President said, “Modi is my Indian friend. I had a very good talk with him. He is great, doing a good job. We also had a good phone conversation.” However, Trump did not say anything about the issues discussed between the two heads of state. Incidentally, the two heads of state spoke on the phone for about 40 minutes last Tuesday. Modi said on X-Handle that various issues including bilateral cooperation have been discussed. The recent situation in West Asia, keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure was also discussed.

It should be remembered that India’s energy crisis will intensify if the Strait of Hormuz is blocked. Because India imports about 85 percent of the required fuel. Most of it comes through the Strait of Hormuz. At the beginning of the war with Iran, the US announced that the ban on buying Russian oil was temporarily lifted. America first ‘permitted’ India, then other countries to buy Russian oil. Statistics show that India imported a large amount of Russian oil during this period. About 30 million barrels of Russian oil arrived in India during the war.

Russian oil import concessions have expired. The US administration is unwilling to give that ‘permission’. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant has announced that the special concessions that were given to buy Iranian oil will not be extended. License will not be renewed. The exemption was only for oil that was loaded onto ships and reached the sea before March 11. That oil has already been used up. If a country buys Russian and Iranian oil, it will suffer ‘punishment’.
