Modi Says AI Will Create Opportunities, Not Take Away Jobs – Read

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed widespread concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) could eliminate jobs, saying the technology should be viewed as an opportunity‑creator, not a threat to employment. His comments came amid the ongoing India AI Impact Summit 2026 in the capital.

Modi acknowledged that fears over AI disrupting the job market are real, especially among India’s youth, but stressed that preparation and skilling are the best antidotes to fear. He said the government is investing heavily in skilling and re‑skilling programmes so that people can adapt to the changing employment landscape driven by AI. The Prime Minister described AI as a “force multiplier” that can expand human capability and help professionals like doctors, teachers and lawyers reach larger populations.

Rejecting the notion that AI will simply wipe out jobs, Modi noted that history shows technology reshapes work rather than eliminates it, creating new kinds of roles as old ones evolve. He urged Indians to embrace AI as a tool that will add new tech employment opportunities and strengthen the economy.

Modi also highlighted India’s ambition to be among the top three AI superpowers globally, focusing not just on consuming AI but on creating homegrown technology that supports inclusive growth, innovation and opportunity for its workforce.
