Modi-Trump’s ‘handshake diplomacy’ on the sidelines of G-7 summit, world eyes on formal bilateral talks to be held today
New Delhi. There was a brief but highly talked about meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on Tuesday on the sidelines of the ongoing G-7 summit in Evian, France. Both the leaders warmly shook hands with each other and also talked for some time, although this time the picture of hug which has been the hallmark of the meetings of the two leaders in the past was not seen. The pictures of this ‘handshake diplomacy’ immediately made headlines on social media and in diplomatic circles.
Informal meeting, formal meeting will be held today
According to sources, this meeting held during the G-7 summit was completely informal, while formal bilateral talks between the two leaders are proposed late Wednesday evening Indian time. This meeting is also considered very important because the two leaders will hold formal face-to-face talks for the first time, about 16 months after the last summit held in Washington in February 2025.
These issues will be discussed
In this proposed bilateral meeting to be held today, there is a strong possibility of further strengthening the India-US strategic partnership, increasing bilateral trade, setting new dimensions of defense and technical cooperation and having a comprehensive discussion on the current global geopolitical situation. The eyes of the whole world are fixed on this meeting, which is expected to give a new direction to the relations between the two countries.
