Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool Career Over? Egypt Director Confirms Hamstring Injury To Sideline The Forward for Rest of Season

The final chapter of Mohamed Salah’s legendary Liverpool career appears to have ended in heartbreak at Anfield. Following the 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, April 25, Egypt’s national team director Ibrahim Hassan has confirmed that the talismanic winger suffered a hamstring tear that is big enough to rule him out for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.

Salah is already set to leave the club at the end of the season, and now this injury news signals a somber conclusion to a nine-year journey that redefined the modern Liverpool era.

Was it Mohamed Salah’s Last Liverpool Match?

Liverpool did not announce any update on Salah’s condition. However, Hassan said the Egyptian talisman has played his last game for the reds. “He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” Hassan told Reuters.

After nine trophy-filled seasons, Salah’s journey with Liverpool reaches its conclusion. His farewell will be marked by words rather than goals, addressing the fans following the season finale against Brentford.

Liverpool have two home fixtures remaining – against Chelsea on May 9 and Brentford on May 24 – and visit Manchester United on May 3, a side Salah has regularly tormented, and play Villa
away on May 17.

Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time, Salah has recorded 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions this season.

Will Salah Play the FIFA World Cup 2026?

Hassan said Salah will be fit for the 2026 World Cup, where Egypt will face Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G.

However, Salah is determined to recover in time for the tournament in North America, which starts on June 11 and avoid a repeat of the injury setback he suffered before the 2018 edition. That year, he injured his shoulder in a 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League final, and despite scoring twice in two matches, Egypt were eliminated at the group stage in Russia.

How Did Mohamed Salah Sustain Injury?

During the match against Crystal Palace on April 25, Saturday, just before the hour mark, Salah attempted to chase down a ball near the touchline. During the sprint and subsequent reach, he appeared to overextend his left leg.

He immediately pulled up, clutching the back of his left hamstring with a visible look of distress. Unlike minor niggles where players might try to walk it off, Salah slumped to the turf almost instantly, signaling to the bench that he could not continue. He received a standing ovation from the crowd.
