ICC takes big action against Pakistan’s star spinner Mohammad Nawaz, banned for 3 months for doping violation

Cricket news: Pakistan cricket team’s experienced spinner Mohammad Nawaz has been found guilty of violating the anti-doping rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC). After this, the ICC, along with banning him for three months, took an important decision and also invalidated all his official records during the stipulated period. The ICC said in its statement released on Friday that Nawaz’s dope test was conducted during the T20 World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The presence of a banned substance was confirmed in a sample taken after the match played against the Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo.

Nawaz accepted the mistake

According to ICC, Mohammad Nawaz has admitted to violating the rules. He told the investigation that he had taken the substance in question not for the purpose of improving sports performance but outside the competition. On this basis, he has been sentenced to three months’ ban. However, if they complete an anti-doping rehabilitation program, their ban period can be reduced to one month.

The ban came into effect from May 1

According to ICC, Nawaz’s ban is considered effective from May 1, 2026. From the same day he also started participating in the rehab program. His temporary suspension was lifted ahead of schedule due to him admitting his mistake under the rules and cooperating in the rehabilitation process.

All records of three months became invalid

While giving relief, ICC has kept the option of reducing the period of ban but did not give any relaxation in the matter of record. The board has decided that all personal records and performances made by Mohammad Nawaz between February 7 and May 1, 2026 will be officially considered invalid.

Pakistan may face a big blow

Mohammad Nawaz is counted among the important players of Pakistan’s limited overs team. In recent years, he has performed usefully for the team in many important matches. Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson also described Nawaz as one of the best spinners in the world during the Asia Cup 2025. Now after this action of ICC, Pakistan team may have to prepare its strategy without him in the upcoming tournaments.
