Mohammad Yunus flouted the Constitution every day, Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin said – he was not able to issue press releases independently.
New Delhi. As soon as BNP chief Tariq Rahman assumed power in Bangladesh, President Mohammad Shahabuddin has made a revelation that will bring political upheaval in the country. He has made serious allegations against former Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus of sidelining him. Shahabuddin said that Yunus violated constitutional traditions many times and kept him away from many important decisions of the country for about one and a half years.

President Shahabuddin said in an interview to Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Kaler Kantho’ that ‘during the time of the interim government, many such ordinances were issued, which were not needed in any way. There was no discussion of any kind with me regarding these. He also said that under constitutional rules the Chief Advisor has to brief the President after any foreign trip, but Yunus did not do so. President Shahabuddin alleged that Yunus made about 15 foreign trips, but did not disclose anything.
Mohammad Yunus ‘kept me in the dark’: Shahabuddin
Shahabuddin said that no information was given regarding the trade deal between Bangladesh and America. Yunus ignored the constitutional responsibility of the President. He also claimed that Yunus tried to keep him in the dark and kept him away from every decision related to the country. Furthermore, he alleged that Dr. Yunus blocked the President’s two proposed foreign trips to Kosovo in December 2025 and another international summit.
The President also said that the interim government wanted to keep him away from public programs. Not allowed to attend convocation ceremonies and other traditional events of universities. There were even allegations of the President’s photographs being removed from Bangladeshi embassies abroad. Shahabuddin claimed that even his press department and photographers were removed, preventing him from issuing press releases independently.

The interim government approached the Chief Justice and requested him to take the oath of office in an unconstitutional manner, which was rejected by the judiciary.
He said that even issuing congratulatory messages on the cricket team’s victory was not allowed. He said in the interview that ‘I was confined to Rashtrapati Bhavan only.’ The President also alleged that efforts were made to remove him from the post. According to him, an advisor to the interim government approached the Chief Justice with a request to take the oath of office in an unconstitutional manner, which was rejected by the judiciary. There is currently no official response from Dr. Yunus or the interim government on these allegations.
