Mohammed Shami bowled for a long time under the supervision of Morne Morkel

Mumbai Mumbai. Senior India fast bowler Mohammed Shami bowled for nearly an hour in the nets without any trouble on Sunday, indicating progress in his recovery process following surgery earlier this year. Shami came to the nets after India's first Test against New Zealand and bowled under the supervision of bowling coach Morne Morkel. Shami, 34, last played for the national team in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, bowling to India assistant coach Abhishek Nair. Shami, who started with a short run-up with his left foot bandaged, picked up his pace and soon bowled with his full run-up and good pace, often leaving Nair behind. After finishing the training session around 4 pm, Shami also had a long conversation with Morkel. He also did some light fielding drills. Indian captain Rohit Sharma had said that he does not want to take “undercooked” Shami on the Australia tour next month. “We want him to be 100 per cent fit. We don't want to take Shami to Australia.

Before the first Test against New Zealand, Rohit had said, “It is very difficult for a fast bowler, because he has missed a lot of cricket and then suddenly to perform at his best.” Rohit had also revealed that Shami Shami has developed “new swelling” in his operated leg, which has slightly delayed his recovery. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, who was ruled out of the first Test against New Zealand due to neck stiffness, also joined Shami in the nets. However, Gill did not take part in any rigorous practice and returned to the dressing room after a light workout with Morkel and the team physio.
