The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued an important update regarding the fitness of Mohammed Shami and his availability for the final two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be held in Melbourne and Sydney. Mohammed Shami's knee swelling
Mohammed Shami was last seen in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and now again he has suffered a new setback. His knee is swollen due to the workload of bowling.
According to the BCCI statement- “Minor swelling has been observed in his left knee due to increased joint load from the bowling workload. The swelling is to be expected due to increased bowling after a long period of time. Based on the current medical assessment, the BCCI The ICC medical team has determined that his knee requires more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads. As a result, he has not been deemed fit for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.”
Involvement in Vijay Hazare is also doubtful
BCCI said- “Shami will continue to undergo strength and conditioning tasks under the guidance of the medical staff at the BCCI Center of Excellence and will increase his bowling load to meet the demands of the longest format of the game. His participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy “Will depend on the progress of his knee.”
