‘Difficult to find positives when you lose 4-0’: Mohammedan coach Chernyshov

Mohammedan Sporting Club head coach Andrey Chernyshov is unhappy with his players after they suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat to Hyderabad FC, a club reeling in the bottom half of the Indian Super League, in Kolkata on Saturday.

“People expected us to play and win the matches but sometimes it is very difficult to find positive things from a match when you lose 4-0,” said Chernyshov at the post-match press conference.

A brace from newcomer Allan Paulista and a goal each from Stefan Sapic and Parah Shrivas gave the visitors their first victory of the season. Mohammedan Sporting, on the other hand, fell behind Hyderabad FC on the points table in the 12th spot.

Hailing the Hyderabad FC players, the Russian coach of Mohammedan Sporting, Chernyshov said, “The players from the Hyderabad FC were fresher, they ran better, were faster and worked faster with the balls. Our performance was not as good as we expected before the match.”

In contrast, Chernyshov said his team did not perform as expected.

“We played today not like we planned before the match and if you start to look again (at) this match..the (players) look like they are a little bit tired,” he said.

Chernyshov pointed to several early mistakes that cost his team very much. “After 15 minutes, we were down 0-3 because of our mistakes,” he said, adding “We started to become more nervous, the second and third goals brought us down.”

“After the first half, we wanted to come back, we spoke well in the dressing room, we changed some players, we brought more players in attack but again they scored. We also had so many chances today but we could not score,” he added.

‘Rocky boat settled down a bit’: Singto

For Hyderabad FC, this victory was a significant boost, especially following the challenges the team recently faced.

Coach Thangboi Singto was happy with the result and credited his players for this morale-boosting win.

“We had a big struggle. But with the new ownership coming in, the rocky boat has settled down a bit,” said Singto in the post-match press conference.

“Supporters supporting us on and off the field have been helping us. So, all the players are believing. Some experienced players like Lenny coming in have helped the younger players. Also, the management is believing in us has helped. We are an all-Indian staff and it’s not easy but credit to the support staff, and medical team for being together. Today there was some luck with us. But we created that luck,” he added.

“Very happy for the team, very happy for the players. and for the fans too,” said Singto.

As Hyderabad FC face Mohun Bagan in their next ISL game, Singto said, “We will have to play better than what we did today.”
