Lucknow: With politics heating up in Uttar Pradesh over the death of a 32-year-old Mohit Pandey in Police custody in Lucknow’s Chinhat police station. While state’s Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak termed his death a tragic and assured action, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and BSP supremo attacked the CM Yogi Adityanath-led government over the issue.
Calling the incident very sad, Pathak said that the state government has taken the incident very seriously and firmly stands with the victim’s family. Pointing out that strict action would be taken against those found guilty, he said that an FIR has been filed against the accused, who will be suspended soon.
BJP has established jungle raj: Priyanka Gandhi
Taking to X, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra pointing fingers at the state government said that Lucknow police detained two youths, after which one of them died the next morning. She also observed that this was the second such incident in a fortnight. Pointing out that Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the country in terms of custody, the Congress leader further said that the BJP established a jungle raj in the state. “Where the lawkeepers themselves are taking lives, from whom should the public expect justice?” she asked further.
Strict action should be taken against criminals: Mayawati
Former state BJP leader and BSP supremo Mayawati too slammed the government over the issue and said that it was natural for the family and people to be furious over the alleged death of the man Mohit Pandey in police custody. Terming the incident as highly condemnable, she urged the state government to take effective steps in providing justice to the victim’s family.
Know about the case
Mohit Pandey, 32-year-old businessman, died in police custody on Saturday. He was taken to Lucknow’s Chinhat police station after a minor dispute with his neighbour Adesh Kumar. He later died in police custody. Soon after, an FIR was filed against the Station House Officer (SHO) and others on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. The SHO was later suspended.
