Mohsin Naqvi challenges BCCI in Asia Cup trophy dispute, announcement of IPL 2026 and PSL match
1
New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has taken an important decision, due to which the next season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) will once again coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Naqvi announced at a roadshow held in New York that the 11th edition of the PSL will run from March 26 to May 3, 2026. This period matches perfectly with the traditional schedule of the IPL, as the IPL is also held from late March to late May.
Direct conflict between PSL and IPL
This is the second year that PSL and IPL are being held at the same time. This happened in the last season too, in which Pakistan was hosting the Champions Trophy. This time the conflict is due to different reasons. Due to the T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka in 2026, PCB has had to choose a new schedule for the PSL. In the first nine seasons, PSL was held in February-March, but now the option of March to May has been taken.
Auction of new teams and expansion of the league
Naqvi also announced that the auction for two new teams in the PSL will take place on January 8, 2026, taking the total number of teams in the league to eight. PCB is holding roadshows in major cities like London and New York to attract foreign investors.
Will PSL benefit from IPL clash?
IPL is considered to be the biggest and most talked about T20 league in the world, which has huge number of spectators and financial resources. Despite this, the clash between PSL and IPL can be called a risky move for the PCB, but it may also have some potential benefits. There are limited spots in the IPL auction; This time more than 350 players are in the auction, but there are only 77 vacant places. Players who are not able to participate in IPL may get a chance to play in PSL.
Many foreign players showed interest in PSL
The interesting thing is that many big foreign cricketers are leaving IPL and giving priority to PSL. Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, England’s Moeen Ali and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell are ready to play in the PSL and have not registered for the IPL 2026 auction.
