Gary Kirsten Raises Questions Over PCB’s Functioning : When India won the ODI World Cup in 2011, the head coach of the Indian team was Gary Kirsten. India performed brilliantly during his tenure. But, his experience with Pakistan was very bad. He was forced to resign due to the interference of Pakistan Cricket Board and differences among the players. Now Kirsten has been associated with Sri Lanka Cricket Board. Meanwhile, remembering the bad experiences with Pakistan, he has raised questions on the functioning of PCB.

Before starting his tenure as head coach of Sri Lanka, South African batsman Gary Kirsten said that while working with the Pakistan team, he had to face more outside interference and noise than he had ever seen in his entire coaching career. Actually, Gary Kirsten was appointed head coach of Pakistan for two years in April 2024. But, due to turmoil in Pakistan cricket, his tenure did not last long. Ultimately he resigned from his post in October 2024.

Recalling his experiences with the Pakistan Cricket Board, Kirsten said in an interview that there was too much outside interference in the Pakistan team. In such a situation, it becomes difficult for a coach to plan with the players and create the right environment. During this, Kirsten accused the coach of targeting her for the team’s poor performance. He said that when the team does not do well, the first talk is of action against the coach. Sometimes there is discussion of removing the coach, and sometimes there is an attempt to limit his role.

Former head coach of Pakistan questioned that if the coach is not to be allowed to work independently, then why was he appointed? Let us tell you that after breaking ties with Pakistan, world champion coach Gary Kirsten was appointed as the team’s consultant for the preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Now he will take over the responsibility of head coach of Sri Lanka men’s cricket team from 15 April 2026. His tenure is to last till April 14, 2028.
