Money is flowing from fake e-Challan website: Bank account can be emptied in one click

Online Fraud India: A big and very dangerous online fraud has come to light targeting vehicle owners in India. Investigation by cyber security company Cyble has revealed more than 36 such fake websites, which look absolutely real. RTO e-Challan Like a portal. New scam is spreading without app and virus

Earlier online fraud was done through fake apps or malware, but this time the method is even more clever. In this fraud, neither any app is downloaded nor any virus is inserted into the phone. By simply clicking on the link received in an SMS, the user reaches the fake website. This is the reason why this scam is spreading rapidly and people are not even aware of it.

Real number and bank support to win trust

To make this fraud appear credible, SMS is sent from an Indian mobile number, which is registered on Reliance Jio. Investigation has also revealed that the same number was found linked to a State Bank of India account. People do not have any doubts after seeing trusted names like Jio and SBI and scammers take advantage of this trust.

By showing fear they force you to make immediate payment.

The fraud starts with a message stating that a traffic challan is pending in your name. The challan amount is deliberately kept low, say around Rs 590, so that the user thinks it is better to make the payment quickly. The message included a 24-hour deadline and “license suspended” Or fear is created by using words like “court notice”.

Fake website that looks like government

The link given in SMS looks exactly like the original e-Challan website. Many times the link is shortened so that the complete URL is not visible. Government logo, colors, design and names like MoRTH and NIC are visible on the website, which leaves no scope for doubt.

Fake challan is shown without verification

As soon as the user enters the vehicle number, the website immediately displays the challan details, whether there is an actual challan or not. There is no backend investigation, everything is just to create fear.

Real theft happens on payment page

The most dangerous part of this scam is the payment page. Here only debit or credit card payment option is given. Neither UPI, nor net banking. As soon as the card number, CVV and expiry date are entered, all the information reaches the scammers. On the screen “Payment is being processed by Indian banks” Like assurance is given by showing fake messages.

Cyble’s report has revealed that the same method is being used in fake websites created in the name of DTDC, Delhivery and even HSBC Bank.
