Mongolia: Mongolia’s ruling party selects new prime ministerial candidate
Mongolia: Mongolia’s ruling party selected a new candidate for prime minister on Sunday after the previous government chief, Zandanshatar Gombojaev, resigned after just nine months in office. According to reports, a meeting of the Mongolian People’s Party nominated Ucharal Nyam-Osor, speaker of the parliament and current party chairman. Uchral first joined the MPP in 2009 and is seen as a compromise candidate among various factions of the party.

Zandanshater’s resignation came after corruption allegations against one of his senior ministers. He also faced a political boycott from the opposition Democratic Party, which has refused to attend parliament sessions since earlier this month, citing concerns over centralization of power within the ruling party.
This turmoil is likely to further increase distrust in the government.
