Satellite Toll System: The government has made complete preparations to rein in those who violate traffic rules. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the government is planning to use Artificial Intelligence to ensure investigation and punishment of traffic rule violations.

Addressing the Traffic Infratech Expo, the Union Minister said that the scheme also includes satellite toll system, which will improve the efficiency of toll collection and ensure transparency. For this, an expert committee will discuss it with startups and industry experts so that road safety can be increased.

Emphasis on increasing road safety

Addressing the 12th edition of ‘Traffic Infratech Expo’, Union Minister Gadkari said that road safety cannot be achieved without integrating advanced engineering solutions, enforcing laws and adopting cutting-edge technologies like AI. Highlighting the ministry’s vision to enhance road safety, he said the government has decided to appoint experts from the private sector to collaborate in developing technology solutions.

“A dedicated expert committee will evaluate the proposals from startups and industry leaders and ensure that the best ideas are implemented,” Gadkari said.

The committee will submit its report in three months

According to the Union Minister, the committee has been directed to finalize its assessment within three months, with the aim of bringing rapid reforms in the sector. Gadkari also stressed the government’s commitment to maintaining high quality standards, especially in the use of surveillance technology like cameras. He assured that quality and standards will not be compromised, whether the solutions come from big or small companies.

Furthermore, the Minister encouraged small companies with innovative technologies to participate in government tenders. He said that with the best technologies India can achieve transparency, reduce costs and significantly enhance road safety. Gadkari called on all stakeholders – government, private sector and startups – to come together to solve the urgent road safety issues in India.

About 5 lakh accidents every year

Highlighting the horrific statistics of road accidents in India, he said that about five lakh accidents take place in the country every year, resulting in loss of a large number of lives. Gadkari highlighted that more than half of these accidents occur in the age group of 18-36 years. He said that the economic loss caused by road accidents is about three percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
