Monsoon Alert – Heavy rain forecast with thunderstorms and strong winds in these states
Monsoon Alert – Snowfall and cloud movement are being observed in the hilly states. Amidst the falling temperatures, people are only venturing out of their homes for essential tasks. Cloudy conditions and rain are expected for the remainder of December. In the plains, dense fog and biting cold have disrupted daily life.
The situation is such that people are seen warming their hands by bonfires even during the day. The air quality in Delhi remains very poor. The combination of fog and declining air quality is making normal life difficult. Several parts of South India are experiencing rain. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for various parts of the country.
Weather in Delhi
The weather in the capital, Delhi, remains quite cold. Winds are blowing at a speed of 10 to 1 kilometer per hour. The minimum temperature was recorded at less than 6.5 degrees Celsius, which is one degree below normal. The maximum temperature is expected to be 22 degrees Celsius. A thick blanket of fog covered Delhi in the morning and evening. Dense fog also prevailed in the areas surrounding Delhi, including Noida, Faridabad, Gurgaon, and Ghaziabad.
Weather in Punjab
Dense fog is also affecting life in Punjab. Traffic is disrupted in most parts of the state due to the fog. Drivers are facing significant difficulties. According to the IMD, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.5 degrees in Amritsar, 5.5 degrees in Bathinda, and 5.4 degrees in Gurdaspur. In Chandigarh, it was 6.7 degrees, and in Ludhiana, it was 6.3 degrees.
Rain in several parts of South India
The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in several parts of South India. Heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected in Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. According to the IMD, several parts of Tamil Nadu may experience light to moderate rainfall until December 28. Cloudy conditions and moderate rainfall are also expected in coastal areas, Chennai, Puducherry, and Karaikal for the next three days.
