Monsoon intensifies, warning of heavy rain and storm in 17 states

According to the India Meteorological Department, monsoon has gained momentum in many parts of the country and warnings have been issued that the impact of the weather will intensify in many states. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain and storm in 17 states tomorrow i.e. on June 19.

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major alert regarding the weather across the country. Within the next 12 hours, there is a possibility of bad weather with heavy rain, strong thunderstorm and lightning in at least 17 states of the country. During this period, wind speed can reach 60 to 80 kilometers per hour in many areas, due to which there is a possibility that life will be affected.

Monsoon picks up pace, weather system active in many states

According to the Meteorological Department, the south-west monsoon is continuously progressing and has become active in many states including Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha. The northern limit of monsoon is currently passing through areas like Harnai, Solapur, Hyderabad, Koraput, Phulbani, Ranchi, Jamui and Muzaffarpur. Favorable conditions remain for further advancement of Monsoon into parts of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh during the next 4 to 5 days.

Among the states where IMD has issued an alert, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are prominent. There is a possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning at many places in these states. In some areas, the wind speed can reach 70 to 80 kilometers per hour, due to which there is a possibility of falling trees, disrupting power supply and affecting traffic.

The states of Northeast India—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura—are expected to receive heavy rainfall between June 19 and 24. Especially in Assam and Meghalaya, there has been a warning of very heavy rainfall during June 19 to 22.

Impact of storm and dusty winds in Delhi-NCR

There is a possibility of partly cloudy sky with light rain and thunderstorm in the National Capital Region of Delhi on June 19. According to the Meteorological Department, the wind speed can reach 60 kilometers per hour. There are chances of dust storm on 20th and 21st June also. During this period the temperature can reach 42 degrees Celsius, although a slight drop in the temperature is possible after June 20.

Heat wave likely to continue in Uttar Pradesh

An alert of severe heat and heat has been issued in many districts of Uttar Pradesh between June 19 and 24. The temperature is likely to be much above normal in many areas including Meerut, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gonda, Bahraich, Sitapur, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur. Although there may be light rain along with thunder at some places, relief from the heat is expected to be limited.

Alert of strong storm and heavy rain in Bihar

There is a possibility of bad weather in Bihar from 19 to 22 June. An alert of heavy rain and storm with thunder has been issued in Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Saran, Munger, Katihar, Jamui and other districts. In some areas, strong winds can blow at a speed of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour. Special warning of heavy rain has been given in Samastipur.

Weather will worsen in Himachal, Uttarakhand and Punjab also

An alert of torrential rain has been issued in Shimla, Mandi and Kullu of Himachal Pradesh on June 19. There is a possibility of hailstorm and thunderstorm in many areas between June 19 and 22. Yellow alert has also been issued in the hill districts of Uttarakhand like Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Nainital and Pithoragarh. There may be rain and hailstorm with strong winds. There is a possibility of rain with winds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and other districts in Punjab.

There is a possibility of rain with strong winds in Odisha on June 19 and 20, where the wind speed can reach 70 kilometers per hour. Yellow alert has been issued in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir from June 19 to 22. There is a possibility of thunder, strong winds and hailstorm here.
