Mood spoiled after victory of Punjab Kings, BCCI fines Rs 24 lakh on Shreyas Iyer

Chennai: In the seventh match of IPL 2026, Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets at their home ground. With this win, Punjab Kings registered their second consecutive win and reached the top of the points table. But the joy of victory could not last long, because after the match, BCCI imposed a heavy fine of Rs 24 lakh on captain Shreyas Iyer for slow over rate.

Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings are looking very aggressive this season, but this was the team’s second consecutive mistake of slow over rate. The same violation took place against Gujarat Titans in the last match, after which the IPL Governing Council of BCCI has adopted a strict stance.

Iyer fined for double punishment

Shreyas Iyer was found guilty of violating the IPL code of conduct in the match played on April 3. This was his second such mistake this season.

The entire team was also fined

Punishment has been imposed not only on the captain but also on the entire Punjab Kings team. In the official statement released after the match, ‘This was the PBKS team’s second violation of this season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which is related to slow over-rate, hence Iyer was fined Rs 24 lakh. Whereas the remaining members of the playing eleven, including the impact players, will be fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees.

Great victory of Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings achieved their second consecutive win by defeating Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the team is playing in a completely different style this season.

PBKS on top

After this victory, Punjab Kings are at first position in the points table with four points. The net run rate of the team is 0.637. Compared to the last two seasons, this time both the mindset and the level of play of Punjab Kings looks much better.
