Moon Moon Sen’s husband Bharat Dev Varma dies at 75
New Delhi: Actress Moon Moon Sen’s husband Bharat Dev Varma died at his Kolkata home on Tuesday (November 19) morning. Reportedly, his physical condition deteriorated after which an ambulance was called to his home from a hospital in the Dhakuria area of Kolkata. However, before the ambulance could reach the hospital, Bharat had passed away. He was 75.
Father of actresses Riya Sen and Raima Sen, Bharat was also a descendant of the former royal family of Tripura. His mother Ila Devi was the princess of Cooch Behar, and also the elder sister of Gayatri Devi, the Maharani of Jaipur. Additionally, Bharat’s grandmother Indira was the only daughter of Searji Rao Gaikwad III, Maharaja of Vadodara.
For the unversed, Moon Moon and Bharat got married in 1978 and had two daughters. The actress herself was born to Bengali star Suchitra Sen and Dibanath Sen, who was the son of one of the wealthiest businessmen of Kolkata, Adinath Sen. Furthermore, Moon Moon’s royal ties extended to her great-grandfather Dinanath Sen who served as a Minister for the Maharaja of Tripura.

On the film front, Moon Moon Sen debuted with the 1984 movie Andar Bahar. Since then she had created a name for herself appearing in multiple movies. She starred in the suspense thriller 100 Days with Madhuri Dixit, Zakhmi Dil, Sirivennela, My Karma, and more. She has worked in sixty films and forty TV shows, solidifying her status as a renowned figure in the industry. Moon Moon was even presented with the Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Speaking about Bharat and Moon Moon’s daughters, both Riya and Raima have starred in several Bollywood and Bengali films. While Raima appeared in films like Nil Nirjane, Arekti Premer Golpo, Baishey Srabon, Manorama Six Feet Under, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., Riya was seen in movies such as Good Luck, Style, Apna Sapna Money Money, Paying Guests, Tere Mere Phere, and more.
