More than 74 thousand charging centers for EVs will be built in India

EV Charging Infrastructure: The central government has issued revised guidelines for the adoption of electric vehicles and expansion of charging infrastructure across the country. The initiative aims to facilitate the installation of EV charging stations so that charging facilities are accessible to vehicle owners.

Big targets under PM Electric Drive Scheme

In the Government Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM e-Drive) scheme Rs. 10,900 crore PM plans to install 74,300 chargers across the country under the electric drive revolution. This includes fast chargers for various types of vehicles. The scheme aims to increase the rate of adoption of electric vehicles.

The new guidelines and their benefits

The main objective of the new guidelines issued on September 18 is to make the establishment of public charging stations economically viable. The guidelines include plans to install charging stations at public places such as railway stations, airports and shopping malls. So that vehicle owners visiting these places can get convenience.

Charging infrastructure challenges and solutions

The power ministry’s new guidelines propose promoting partnership between the private and government sectors through a revenue sharing model at public charging stations. This will reduce the cost of setting up charging stations and make these facilities available in more places.

The way forward and the role of government

The guidelines issued by the government will not only increase the number of charging stations. Instead, this will also encourage the purchase of electric vehicles. In the process, the government plans to make EV charging more accessible and affordable. So that EV revolution can gain momentum in India.
