“Morne Morkel should be answering about it”: Team India’s bizarre bowling strategy surprises Sunil Gavaskar
Morne Morkel was fast and accurate as a pacer for South Africa in international cricket. He has been working as a bowling coach since his retirement and his currently associated with Team India. Morkel made full use of the short balls against the opponents but the Indian bowlers are not using this potent weapon in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-24 against Australia.
Former India player Sunil Gavaskar is surprised that the pacers of the visiting team are targeting the Aussie batters with short-pitched stuff on lively tracks Down Under.
“Pat Cummins bowled a brutal bouncer to Nitish Kumar Reddy and the batter somehow managed to avoid it. Australian pacers have used short balls to good effect. I don’t understand why Indian bowlers are not adopting this strategy.
“Morne Morkel should be answering about it. He was renowned for bowling bouncers as a pacer but despite his presence, the Indian bowlers have shown keenness toward this important aspect of the game. The reason has to be tactical and you can’t do it for a long time if it is not tactical,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, the series is levelled at 1-1 after three Tests and the ongoing Melbourne Test and the upcoming Sydney contest are likely to decide the outcome of the series.
