Sultanpur. The MP-MLA court has provided the last chance to Congress leader and Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case. The court has directed him to appear personally on February 20 and record his statement.
Rahul Gandhi could not be present in the court during the hearing of the case on Monday, whereas in the previous hearing, the statement of witness Ramchandra Dubey was recorded and he was cross-examined by the lawyers. Earlier, the court had given clear instructions to Rahul Gandhi to appear in person and record his statement.
Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer told the court that he will appear in the MP-MLA court on February 20 and record his statement.
This case is almost eight years old, which is related to a statement given during the Karnataka Assembly elections. It is alleged that at that time Rahul Gandhi had made objectionable remarks about the current Home Minister Amit Shah.
Hurt by this alleged comment, BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi in the MP-MLA court. At present the hearing of this case is going on. Rahul Gandhi has already recorded his statement in this case and is currently on bail.
