MS Dhoni fuels expectations of a CSK return ahead of the Mumbai Indians match
MS Dhoni is on the verge of getting fit and is likely to feature for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2026. He is now travelling with the franchise, with the five-time champions set to take on the Mumbai Indians in their next match. He was involved in the wicket-keeping drills to reignite the hope among the CSK fans. He has been missing from the action before the first match of the ongoing edition.
He has been training to prepare for the matches and was seen in Hyderabad with other players for the SRH vs CSK match. However, he was not included in the Playing XI. CSK recently shared a video of the legendary player, who stumped a batter.
The team management has not given any information on his comeback. There is also a question about whether Dhoni will be a part of the starting XI or if he will come in as an impact player.
“I am not sure. He is making a recovery in his rehab, and I am happy with how he is batting in the nets,” CSK batting coach Michael Hussey said.
Sanjay Manjrekar also opined on Dhoni’s likely role. “You have to keep Dhoni on the field. And how would you ensure that? He is not performing consistently. It is a joke when he comes out to face three or four balls. The coverage hypes him, calling it a good knock,” he said.
“It shouldn’t be the norm anymore. It is not a long-term solution. I can’t pretend how Ruturaj Gaikwad felt when MS Dhoni was present on the field but not leading the side as opposed to him not being present,” he added.
In 44 IPL matches vs the Mumbai Indians, he has amassed 772 runs at an average exceeding 35.
