MS Dhoni keeps Chennai Super Kings in the dark about his participation in IPL 2025

MS Dhoni was supposed to meet the Chennai Super Kings officials in mid-October to discuss his participation in IPL 2025, but the veteran hasn’t made any move. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan admitted that Dhoni hadn’t confirmed anything ng yet, but he is hopeful the veterans will play for the team in the 18th season.

Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles, left the captaincy before the start of the previous season and handed over the captain’s armband to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Chennai failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The BCCI has brought back the uncapped rule to allow CSK to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player, as it has been more than five years since he played for the Indian team.

“We want Dhoni to play for CSK but he hasn’t confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni will inform about his decision before October 31. We hope that he agrees to play,” Viswanathan told Sports Vikatan.

The legendary wicketkeeper has been hampered by injuries in the previous two seasons, which have also affected his batting. Because of his fitness issues, he has refused to face many balls during the batting.

Earlier, he refused to discuss his playing days with the team until the Indian Cricket Board revealed the new retention rules and regulations. It’s been extended since the apex body released the rules, but Dhoni continues to remain quiet.

Dhoni will be paid INR 4 crore if he signs another contract extension with the franchise.
