Will you play in IPL 2026 or retire? CSK CEO’s statement on Dhoni creates stir

MS Dhoni: The craze of fans for the Indian cricket team and former CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is not hidden from anyone. Dhoni is over 40, but his fans want him to return to the field at least through IPL, and Mahi is fulfilling their wish. Dismissing speculations about his retirement from IPL for years, Mahi has always surprised his fans by returning to the field with the bat. Same thing is going to happen in this IPL season also.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has finally put an end to the speculations regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement. He has made it clear that Dhoni will return to the field as a player in IPL 2026. When reporters asked him questions about Dhoni’s playing, he replied with full confidence, “He will play, he will definitely play.”

Big changes and new strategy in CSK

Although Dhoni handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad in 2024, the last season of the team has been disappointing. The team is at the bottom of the points table with only four wins in 14 matches. Perhaps this is why there is a lot of turmoil in the team this season. Star all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran have now joined Rajasthan Royals. CSK has traded Sanju Samson from Rajasthan, which is being seen as preparation for the post-Dhoni era. CSK has bought nine new players in the auction in Abu Dhabi. These included names like Rahul Chahar, Akil Hussain and Matthew Short.

Bets on uncapped players

The most surprising move was the money spent on Karthik Sharma and Prashant Veer. CSK had bought these two uncapped players for ₹ 14.2 crore. Now the team has four wicketkeeper-batsmen in the form of Dhoni, Sanju Samson, Urvil Patel and Karthik Sharma.
