India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Wednesday. According to the department, there may be heavy rain at many places in the city. In view of the weather conditions, yellow and orange alerts have also been issued in various districts of Maharashtra.

What problems are being caused by rain?

Due to overnight rain, there was heavy waterlogging in many parts of Mumbai. Due to water logging on the roads, people had to face a lot of problems in transportation. The Municipal Corporation also imposed traffic restrictions at many places due to security reasons.

Due to waterlogging, the subway in Everard city was temporarily closed to the general public. Keeping security in mind, officials appealed to people to use alternative routes. Widespread impact of rain was seen in many parts of Mumbai including Saki Naka metro station area. Roads were seen submerged in water and office going people had to face a lot of trouble.

Where was the long traffic jam?

Due to heavy rains, long queues of vehicles formed on the major roads of the city. Traffic was further affected after a truck loaded with vegetables overturned on the Western Express Highway. Vehicles were also seen crawling on the Eastern Express Highway due to waterlogging.

What did BMC say on waterlogging?

Regarding the situation, BMC officer Hrithik said that at present an immediate solution to the problem of waterlogging in the affected area has not been found. He said, “We have not been able to find any temporary solution to this severe waterlogging. Our officers are continuously deployed here so that vehicles cannot pass here but some rickshaw pullers are still trying to get their vehicles out of here. One rickshaw puller got stuck in the middle of the metro. His life was in danger. Two of our officers helped him get out.”

How will the weather be in future?

According to the Meteorological Department, rain may continue in Mumbai and surrounding areas for the next few days. There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain in many areas. The administration has advised citizens to remain alert and avoid waterlogged areas.
