Mumbai Indians Likely to Retain Rohit Sharma Ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

The IPL franchise Mumbai Indians are likely to retain Indian captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions. According to reports, along with Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav will likely be retained by the franchise.

It is also reported that MI is planning to buy wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan at the auction and use the RTM card for Australian batter Tim David.

Rohit has led five titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020, made his IPL debut in 2011 and since then he has been associated with them. Rohit was removed from MI captaincy in IPL 2024 where the franchise finished at the bottom of the points table.

It will be interesting to see how much money he will be retained. As per the retention rules, a franchise can retain as many as six players ahead of the mega auction with a maximum of 5 capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players.

As per the new regulations, retention has fixed INR 18 crore price for the first retention slot, INR 14 crore for the second, and INR 11 crore for the third, while the fourth and fifth players will cost INR 18 crore and INR 14 crore respectively.

Hence, if Mumbai retains Rohit, Hardik, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, then the franchise will head into the auction with a purse of INR 61 crore.
