Mumbai Nashik Highway: The ‘Ha’ toll booth on the Mumbai Nashik Highway will be reopened

Mumbai Nashik Highway | The journey between Mumbai and Nashik is likely to become more expensive. Mumbai-Nashik Highway Improvement Project, one of the important infrastructure projects of Thane district, has now reached its final stage. The Majiwada-Wadpe lane widening project being implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is nearing completion, and this has given rise to the possibility of re-opening the toll booth at Kharegaon. According to the officials of the National Highways Authority of India, this decision may be implemented in the coming months.

In fact, the toll booth on this highway bypassing Bhiwandi was started in 1998. However, due to various reasons, this toll collection was discontinued in 2017. Now, the highway is being expanded from 4 lanes to as many as 12 lanes, as part of which preparations are underway to resume toll collection. This route is a very important route connecting Mumbai and Nashik and thousands of vehicles travel through this route every day. Mumbai Nashik Highway

This project will not only make travel faster and safer, but will also benefit the freight system. This route is very important especially for citizens traveling from Kalyan, Dombivli and Bhiwandi areas. Also, as this highway connects with Samriddhi Highway at Amane, the connectivity of the state will be further strengthened.

According to officials, the work of setting up about 30 toll booths in Kharegaon is in the final stage. It has been expressed that the toll collection will start immediately after the completion of the project. However, it has been clarified that the final decision in this regard will be taken at the ministry level. Mumbai Nashik Highway

Meanwhile, the move to resume toll collection has sparked opposition from local political parties. MNS and NCP (Sharad Chandra Pawar group) have expressed their displeasure over this decision and demanded exemption from toll to local vehicle owners. According to him, the citizens who are already bearing the burden of various taxes will have an additional financial burden due to this new toll booth.

Local leaders have warned that if concessions are not granted to locals, there will be an agitation to close the toll plaza. Also, it is feared that due to toll, the cost of transportation may increase and the prices of essential commodities may also be affected.

However, the National Highways Authority of India has indicated that some concession may be given to local motorists living within 20 km of the toll booths. However, there remains the possibility of toll collection from fleet cabs, tourist buses and goods vehicles.
