Mumbai Police formed 20 teams to catch Saif Ali Khan's attacker

Mumbai Mumbai: Mumbai Police on Thursday formed 20 teams to trace and arrest the accused who attacked actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in the early hours. Apart from this, the police also used its network of informers to trace him. Police said CCTV footage of the building is being examined, in which the attacker is seen running away armed with a wooden stick and a long hexa blade. The attack took place during an 'attempted theft' in the apartment located in the 'Satguru Sharan' building.

The face of the suspected youth is clearly visible in the footage captured at 2.33 pm. He is seen wearing a brown collared T-shirt and a red scarf or 'gamchha' while descending the stairs on the sixth floor of the building. The 54-year-old actor lives on the 12th floor. Apart from Khan, complainant Eliama Philip, a 56-year-old staff nurse who worked at the house, and a domestic help also suffered blade injuries in the incident, an official said.

Based on the information received from the footage and other clues, the police have started searching for the attacker. He said investigators believe the attacker may have changed his clothes before fleeing the scene. The police have recorded the statements of nurse Philip, domestic help, building guard and interrogated some people, the officer said. “Police have formed 20 teams and started searching for the accused,” he said. They said they are trying to find out whether he has any previous criminal record. Another official said that the investigating teams are taking the help of informers and relying on technical assistance to arrest the attacker. (
