Mumbai Police recreate gunfire trail outside Rohit Shetty’s home
Two weeks after gunfire outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s home shocked Mumbai, police are now replaying the drama step by step, almost like a film scene, but with real stakes.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has recorded statements from the managers of the 51-year-old and actor Ranveer Singh, who stars in Shetty’s upcoming project Simmba 2.
Officers have also recreated the full crime scene allegedly commenced by the accused, from buying a scooter in Pune to parking it outside Vile Parle station in Mumbai.
Four men, Swapnil Sakat, Aditya Gayaki, Siddharth Yenpure and Samarth Pomaji, were taken along as police retraced the route.
Sources said that “The Crime Branch recreated every scene, from purchasing the scooter in Pune, transporting it by road to Mumbai, and the places where the accused stopped during the journey, to parking the scooter outside Vile Parle station in Mumbai.”
The entire exercise was filmed as evidence.
Investigators say the 40-year-old actor received a threatening voice note from someone claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, demanding money. He alerted senior officers soon after.
Money trails are also under focus. Police said that the accused received Rs 40,000. However, as the investigation progressed and inquiries were made, it was revealed that a total of Rs 51,000 was given to them, of which Rs 30,000 was used to purchase the scooter, while they spent Rs 21,000, including an extra Rs 11,000 allegedly handed over after delivery.
A sixth accused is expected to be taken into custody soon. But the shooter and one accomplice are still missing. The search continues.
