Women Safety in Cab : A 27-second video of a taxi running on the streets of Mumbai is becoming increasingly viral on social media these days. When Dubai based NRI Rohit Singh Rathore asked about the SOS button installed in the cab, people were surprised to hear the driver’s answer.

Debate broke out regarding emergency button
In the video, the driver says that this emergency button has been installed especially for the safety of women passengers. Although he claims that one night he himself pressed the panic button several times, but neither the police came nor the company was immediately contacted. According to him, the call came at around 6 in the morning and then the interrogation was done.
This claim has raised questions on issues like panic button and women’s safety on social media. Many users wrote that if the emergency button does not work on time then how will the safety of the passengers be ensured.

The video raised questions on the efficiency of the system
According to the law, it is mandatory to install VLTD (Vehicle Location Tracking Device) and panic button in all commercial taxis and public service vehicles from January 1, 2019. This system sends live location to the control room so that in case of emergency, help can be reached immediately.
Failure to follow the rules may prevent fitness or permit renewal. In such a situation, the viral video has raised questions on the efficiency of the system. This reel has received millions of views on Instagram. Now there is a need that the concerned agencies should investigate these claims, so that the confidence of the passengers can be maintained.
